Pierre Winther is a contemporary conceptual artist rooted in cinema and storytelling, creating provocative realities with meticulous precision. His orchestrated, often surreal scenes from a man riding a live shark to an imminent car crash transcend aesthetics to reveal deeper narrative truths. A world-renowned conceptualist, raconteur, and visionary, the Copenhagen born artist has pioneered photography and film for over three decades, seamlessly merging both mediums to expand one into the other. Winther’s cinematic images tell entire narratives in a single frame, freezing essential moments that nurture curiosity and imagination. His bold, saturated visuals and organised chaos keep subjects natural and human, while pushing them into metaphorical mindspaces. Known for fearless, carefully staged real life scenarios shot without digital manipulation, his photographs stand out for their authenticity, tension, and vivid colour. Preferring film over digital, he creates fully realised scenes with total authorship. In 1993, he joined Propaganda Films, working alongside directors like David Fincher and David Lynch, and later with visionary filmmakers such as Terry Gilliam, Robert Rodriguez, and Terrence Malick on groundbreaking campaigns and TV projects. For Winther, strong concepts always drive the work; whether in galleries or mainstream culture, his images provoke, inspire, and immerse always creating worlds rather than merely capturing them.
