Wonderworld / Film

Pierre Winther's Wonderworld rearranges our reality system. Every character's expression says that they have something in mind. People like you and me turn into perpetrators of their very own bizarre games. Some are dancing around a streetlight, others are kissing while a passersby is set on fire, the next one lets himself get run over by a car - but at least in a comfortable position. This black humor makes the viewer question his standards of right or wrong. Sad becomes funny, innocent becomes suspicious, beautiful turns into brutal, and vice versa. In the end, the big catastrophe is just another everyday event.

The imagery supports this premise of redefining the rules of the ordinary. Unusual perspectives and close-ups break the eye's habits. The characters' precisely choreographed interplay and a camera that rushes with the action let one story elegantly slide into the next one. The bold art direction with a mix of trash, vintage and no fear of color or shadow-play is intensified by the adjustment of saturation. But the most important instruction for the attentive observer is: mind the details!

Winther's Wonderworld is a movie mash-up resulting from different projects.
